Australia has around 107 species of snakes the Australian Python is by far the most common kept in captivity. There are around 20 different varieties of Pythons all of which can be kept by reptile keepers with an appropriate reptile licence, a suitable python enclosure and reptile heat source. Pythons are members of the Boidae family and range in species from the water python (semi-aquatic) to tree dwellers like the green tree python. Astralian Pythons are commonly found in sandy, rocky, and coastal forests through out the country. Never release or take any python from or back into the wild. Pythons in suburbia are often mistaken for venomous snakes and killed by ignorant householders. All Australian Snakes are protected by law and it is ilegal to do so. Most pythons found in established built up areas are escaped pets or have been forced thier by new land developments they are harmless non-venomous and slow moving so don’t feel you need to harm it in anyway.
