There are around 20 different spieces of the Monitor or Goanna family (Varanidae) in Australia. Monitors can range in size from 35cm up to 1.3m long. They are sun loving lizards and are best kept in outdoor reptile cages. Two smaller monitors require a minimum reptile cage floor area of 90cm by 40cm . Larger Monitors require a much larger out door reptile enclosure with a minium size of 3m x 3m x 1.8m high. Adult Monitors are very strong and can inflict serious harm to begginers and novice reptile keepers.
